COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions we hear most.

Don't see yours? Ask us directly — we answer within one business day, with no obligation.

Do you work with clients outside Ontario?

Yes. We're based in Barrie, Ontario, and most of our clients are here in Ontario, but we also work with individuals and small businesses in other provinces. Everything is handled virtually, using cloud-based tools for document sharing, bookkeeping, and communication.

What's the difference between a bookkeeper and a CPA?

A bookkeeper handles day-to-day recording of transactions, reconciliations, and financial organization. A CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) is a licensed professional who can also prepare and file tax returns, provide tax planning guidance, and represent you with the CRA. We offer both, so your books and your filings stay connected.

Do I need a bookkeeper if I already use accounting software?

Software like QuickBooks or Wave helps you track transactions, but it doesn't replace someone reviewing, categorizing, and reconciling that data correctly. We can work within the software you already use, or help you set one up, so your records stay accurate and ready for tax time.

What do I need to provide to get started?

It depends on the service, but generally we'll ask for basic identification, prior year tax filings (if applicable), bank and credit card statements, and access to your accounting software if you have one. We'll walk you through exactly what's needed once we understand your situation.

When are personal and corporate tax filing deadlines in Ontario?

Personal tax returns (T1) are generally due April 30 each year, with a June 15 deadline for self-employed individuals (though any balance owing is still due April 30). Corporate tax return (T2) deadlines depend on your corporation's fiscal year-end. We can confirm the exact dates that apply to your situation.

How much do your services cost?

Pricing depends on the scope of work — for example, transaction volume for bookkeeping, or the complexity of a tax return. We're happy to provide a clear quote after a short conversation about what you need.

How do I know if I should incorporate or stay a sole proprietor?

It depends on factors like your income level, liability exposure, and long-term plans for the business. There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer — we can walk through the trade-offs with you and help you decide what fits your situation.
